COLONIA DE SACREMENTO, URUGUAY

From Buenos Aires, traveling by boat across the river to Colonia de Sacremento in Uruguay makes a nice day trip. A two hour ferry ride (Colonia Express) is all it takes to visit this old Portuguese colony dating back to the 17th century.

To be honest there's not all that much to do except stroll in the peaceful old town and enjoy the many cafes and restaurants, although la Calle de los Suspiros is not to be missed!. Many foreigners make the trip for visa purposes, once you leave and reenter Argentina your 90 day tourist visa is automatically renewed.
